YOUR GUIDE TO ODIORNE POINT STATE PARK

Odiorne Point is not your average park visit. While many parks have peaceful trail walks and lovely picnicking locations, this state park has a layer of American history and beautiful beachside walks to enjoy as well.

Because there’s so many different activities and things to learn about Odiorne Point, we’ve taken the liberty (pun intended) of guiding you through what a day trip to the state park could look like!

General Admission to the Park:

$2 - $4

SEACOAST SCIENCE CENTER

Hours: Wednesday - Sunday; 10AM - 4PM

Prices: $5-$10 for general admission

When you’re this close to the ocean, you’ve got to take advantage of it. The Seacoast Science Center is the premier place in all of the New Hampshire shore to learn about and understand marine life on the coast of The Granite State.

In the exhibits of the center, you’ll be able to learn about marine mammals like the whale, how marine biologists are working to restore reefs around the world, and find out what beach flora are invasive and local to the NH coastline. Feel free to pet some of the sea critters onsite. The inside area is perfect for families with young children.

Do you like the idea of sailing in Portsmouth, but want a more hands on experience with a focus on nature? With the guidance of a Seacoast kayaker, you’ll be able to sail down the Piscataqua River on two different kayak routes. The guides will point out the various creatures that thrive in the river and ocean, including shorebirds, seals, fish, crustacean, and plants.

The Piscataqua River via Little Harbor route is the easier kayak option, and experienced kayakers can enjoy the route that rides around Leach’s Islands. Make sure you bring all the recommended equipment that in the packing list:

  • Your receipt (free parking is included with your kayak tour!)
  • Water Bottles
  • Snacks
  • Water Shoes
  • Clothing for Getting Wet
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen and Bug Spray

WEDDINGS

With a lovely beachfront venue, lighthouses in the distance, and a peaceful natural ambience, the Seacoast Science Center actually makes an excellent wedding venue for couples looking for a magical special day. The venue has seating for up to 200 guests, and costs around $9750 for six hours of rental time.

Included with the venue is electricity for music and catering and a dance floor. See if the venue is right for your wedding!

NEW HAMPSHIRE HISTORY

As you walk on the grounds of Odiorne Point, you’ll see many historical plaques and sites from New Hampshire history. This includes a commemorative sign honoring the first English settlers in the state (the Odiorne family) and a vast collection of WWII equipment that was designed to protect the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Walk along the historical paths and learn about the different tactics the American armed forces used to deter its enemies from attacking New Hampshire. The history is fascinating.

Want to know more about these trails? You essentially have two options. The first is the Seacoast Science Center and Founder’s Monument Trail, which offers a quiet walk along the seashore and the land surrounding the science center. It’s easy for and accessible for all hikers.

The longer hike will guide you throughout the entire state park. The lo
op will guide you to Odiorne Point, to many different historic sites, and more! Bring your camera and binoculars if you want the best birdwatching nearby. These hiking trails are simple, but they make for a great time.

ODIORNE POINT STATE PARK TRAILS

ARE THE TRAILS DOG FRIENDLY?

Unfortunately, dogs aren’t allowed at the state park, which means you’ll have to leave Fido home.
