Open just a few months, The District Restaurant is Portsmouth NH’s newest dining experience. Located just a 10 minute walk from the Martin Hill Inn, this casual but classy restaurant is open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday and dinner seven days a week until as late as midnight. Sleek furniture with warm colors nicely blends a modern decor with a welcoming feel. The staff is well trained and very attentive.
The menu is shorter than most in town, but selects from some of the best local ingredients. Less than a dozen or so starters and salads are followed by an equal number of main courses. Additional side dishes (or side cars) are offered as fun suppliments to any main dish or starter you may order.
Our meal started with cod cakes which were practically all cod and a side order of roasted beets with candied pistachios. Our main items were roasted chicken with creamed spinach and cioppolini onions and lamb with apricot masala compote. To round out the evening we had pound cake topped with one scoop each of basil ice cream and myer lemon sorbet drizzled with honey. But wait, we also had a blueberry shortcake with special cream sauce.
For guests of our Portsmouth NH bed and breakfast, we will be highly recommending this restaurant particularly for people who prefer a late dinner.
