Portsmouth Harbor Cruises

Of all the things to do in Portsmouth, NH from our bed and breakfast, the Portsmouth Harbor Cruise is a perennial favorite.  Running from early June to mid-October, the cruises available include trips through the inner harbor, evening cruises, tours around the Isles of Shoals and inland river cruises.

For guests of the Martin Hill Inn who have never visited Portsmouth before, we recommend starting with a traditional Harbor Cruise.  The historical narration provided by the captain covers the early days of ship building, the massive submarine building that occurred during WWII, the history of the Naval Prison as well as the shipyard, colorful anecdotes of famous figures that rode through our old city, as well as information about the river itself.  The cruise lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes and shows a view of the city not available from land.

The inland rivers cruises run during the fall and take a little over 2 hours.  By the way, refreshments are avialable on board.  Traveling up the Cocheco River or into the Great Bay, depending on the tide, these cruises cover both history and the natural settings of these hidden bodies of water that lie upstream from the City of Portsmouth.  When the leaves are changing color, the banks of the river are glorious to behold.

Other available cruises include: Evening, Sunset/Lights Cruise and Isles of Shoals Cruise which vary in length from 1 hour, 1 1/2 hours to 2 1/2 hours.  Whichever cruise you choose, reservations are recommended.  Check dates and times before planning your trip.  However, you do not have to worry about parking because the Cruise dock is just a 15 minutes walk from the Martin Hill Inn and our parking lot.  The Inn offers packages which include Harbor Cruises for guests convenience.
