Welcome You to Martin Hill Inn!

The only true bed and breakfast in the downtown area!

Christmas Stroll at Strawbery Banke is on!!! December 11 through 13 and December 18 through 20.  And the Skating Rink is nearly set for the season.  We still have a few rooms available for the 2 Stroll Weekends, so if you want to join (safely) in the fun, make your reservation soon.!

Everybody has lots of questions, since everything has changed and nobody knows what is going on.  And we got answers.  Maybe not all the answers, but quite a few.

  • Yes, we are open (start with an easy one!).
  • Yes, we are still serving breakfast – right to your room.  A full breakfast, not an apple and a bagel.
  • Yes, we have our own parking lot.
  • Yes, we have a very generous cancellation policy.
  • Yes, we are cleaning the heck out of everything.
  • Yes, you will have to sign our CoViD form before you can stay.
  • No, we still don’t take pets or children under 12.
  • No, you can’t squish three or four people into your room.

It is a challenging time to travel, so our goal is to make you feel as safe as possible.  Just making a reservation is an act of bravery and optimism, so should cruel fate intervene we will not penalize you.  We will waive all fees and penalties on any CoViD related cancellation as long as it is 24 hours or more before your scheduled stay.

If you would like more details on any of the points above please click here  or call us at 603-436-2287.

Our two-course full breakfast is currently being served “room service” style.  We offer such epicurean delights as mixed-berry crumbles, broiled spiced oranges, savory quiches, mouth-watering waffles, pancakes and baked French Toast.  We are proud to offer locally grown and locally sourced food.  With advanced notice, we are pleased to offer gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, or lactose-free breakfasts for our guests.  Breakfast is included in the room rate.

On a warm summer afternoon, savor a glass of wine or a refreshing ice tea in our cool shade gardens, while discussing dinner plans or tomorrow’s activities. A hot coffee or fresh pot of tea and cookies await your return to Martin Hill Inn on a snowy afternoon.

We look forward to helping you explore the town that National Geographic Traveler Magazine ranked #6 on its list of Most Historic Places in the United States.  See you soon.

#1 Frequently Asked Question:  How far is the Inn from downtown Market Square and the Portsmouth shops and restaurants?  Answer:  10-15 minute walk or 1/2 mile.

About the Innkeepers:   Russ & I bought the B&B on November 22, 2013.  We have had a very successful 5th year – completed some renovations and are in the process of others.  Once again, the garden really came through!  As we head into our sixth year, Russ and I (Meg) want to thank our guests, our friends, including all of you who have connected with us on social media, and local businesses and people who have been so welcoming and supportive.  Thank you!   Meg & Russ
